Y’all remember those stimulus checks people were getting? Well, it’s unlikely that another round of those will pass on a federal level, but there are some states offering universal basic income (UBI).
UBI is a set of recurring payments that people get from the government, The-Sun reported. The payments can come monthly, several times a year, or in one set annual payment.
Andrew Yang, who was a 2020 democratic presidential candidate and centered his campaign around UBI. During his run for New York Mayor, Yang suggested giving an annual $2,000 payout to its lowest-income residents.
Many Americans got an extra boost from the stimulus checks, but they aren’t recurring payments. Luckily, some states offer UBI to their citizens, including Alaska, Pittsburgh, Columbia, and California.
Must be nice.
