New details have emerged after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. According to court records, Baldwin was handed a prop gun from the assistant director, who stated it was safe to use just moments before the shooting.
According to a search warrant filed in a Santa Fe court, the assistant director did not know that the prop gun was loaded with live rounds.
ABC News reports that Hutchins was shot in the chest. Director Joel Souza was also wounded on the set of the Western as he stood behind Hutchins.
Baldwin’s costume that he was wearing during the accidental shooting was taken in as evidence, as was the weapon that was fired, according to court documents that were released on Friday.
Investigators seized the props and ammunition.
Alec Baldwin described the incident as a “tragic accident.” The sheriff’s office stated that Baldwin was performing at the time of the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing. It was unclear how many rounds were fired, and little was known about the weapon.
