A Kansas City, Kansas mother says her apartment complex mistakenly cleared out everything in her townhome.

Imagine coming home after the weekend to find all the belongings in your home gone. That’s what happened to Myrohn Guthrie, who came home to her Gateway Plaza townhome and found all of her property removed.

First, Guthrie called the police, believing she’d become a victim of a burglary. But come to find out, the managers of her apartment complex made a clerical mistake and mistakenly cleared all her belongings, thinking it was another unit.

“I just started crying immediately and my jaw dropped and I was like oh my God,” Guthrie said. Her couches, dressers, TVs, beds and refrigerator were all gone, including her two children’s furniture, reports KSNT.

After doing some of her own investigating, she realized she wasn’t robbed. That’s when she told her management repeatedly that it couldn’t have been a burglary, and they finally checked their records. “That’s when they told me, ‘we’re so sorry we cleaned out the wrong unit,” ‘she said. That mistake cost Guthrie about $32,000, which she says is the estimated value of the complex trashed items. Her social security cards and birth certificates are also missing.

“It’s stuff I literally can’t get back. I had the canvas picture from here to here,” Guthrie said, sharing that they even threw out some of her family portraits. And she says the apartment complex’s response to the mistake is even more unbelievable. “They haven’t asked ‘do you or your kids have somewhere to stay, do you have food do you have clothes?” ‘she said.

In the meantime, a rep said Seldin Company sent a statement on Wednesday, saying they would be looking into the incident in hopes of finding a resolution for Guthrie and her family. However, Guthrie doesn’t have renter’s insurance, which means she will have to start from scratch, rebuilding her life back to what it was.
