An American Airlines flight had to be diverted after a passenger allegedly assaulted a flight attendant.
Flight 976, which was on its way to Orange County, California from New York, had to make an unexpected landing in Denver after a passenger allegedly assaulted a flight stewardess. There are no details on how the attendant is doing.
American Airlines said it would not tolerate “acts of violence” against its staff in a statement.
“Acts of violence against our team members will not be tolerated by American Airlines. The individual involved in this incident will never be allowed to travel with American Airlines in the future, but we will not be satisfied until he has been prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This behavior must stop, and aggressive enforcement and prosecution of the law is the best deterrent,” the statement read.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, 923 investigations have been launched into incidents related to physical acts of violence on planes. So far, there has been more than $1 million worth of fines issued to passengers for their alleged unruly behavior.
No details about what charges the passenger may receive have been released. The passenger’s identity has also not been made available.
