A Pennsylvania mother has been charged after she told police she hid her son’s dead body in the walls of her home.
According to reports, 25-year-old Kylie Wilt told police that her 1-year-old son had been deceased and buried since February.
The Washington County DA’s Office said that Wilt admitted to putting her baby’s dead body in a box and cutting a hole in the wall at her Charleroi home, applying drywall and painting over it.
Officials informed WPXI that representatives from the state’s Child and Youth Services Department came to her home last week to inquire about her infant. She allegedly told them he was being watched in North Carolina by someone else.
She subsequently revised her story, informing CYS that her 5-month-old baby had died in February at the couple’s previous home of sudden infant death syndrome.
For months now, Wilt’s baby had been under investigation by CYS after he was born with THC in his system.
She informed authorities that she grew nervous when the baby died. She, her boyfriend, and her other three children moved three blocks away, taking the baby’s body with them.
According to Wilt, she hid the infant because she couldn’t afford a funeral. At this time, the cause of her son’s death is still being investigated.
Before the family moved, former neighbor Robin Stasicha told KDKA that she had heard the baby sobbing “all the time.”
“And all of a sudden, it didn’t one day and didn’t see them bringing him in and out and didn’t figure this is what happened,” Stasicha said.
She stated she inquired about the baby with her property manager, who informed her that the child had died.
“I was thinking, I’m here all the time,” Stasicha said. “I never saw an ambulance. Wouldn’t you call 911 if your baby wasn’t responding to you?”
Wilt is accused of concealing a child’s death, abuse of a corpse, obstructing justice, welfare fraud, and tampering with evidence.
Alan Hollis, the baby’s father, is also charged with hindering the rule of law or other governmental functions.
