After pleading guilty to stabbing his neighbor, Adam Abdul-Jabbar, the son of NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was sentenced to six months in jail.
At a hearing earlier this week, Adam, who was accused of smashing a blade through a man’s head after the two got into an argument about trash cans in 2020, pleaded guilty to four crimes in all, including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Adam was originally facing years in prison for the charges, but the judge only gave him 180 days in jail and two years of probation.
“This slap on the wrist is an absolute miscarriage of justice,” Orange County D.A. Todd Spitzer said in a statement. “The Orange County District Attorney’s Office vehemently objected … because we believe the complete disregard for human life over a dispute over trashcans is so egregious it warranted prison time.”
As previously reported, in June 2020, Adam and then-60-year-old Raymond Windsor got into an altercation when Windsor asked the 29-year-old to assist his elderly grandmother with hauling in trash cans.
Prosecutors claim Adam was so enraged with Windsor that he stabbed him in the head, neck, back, and side many times.
Windsor claimed in a civil lawsuit filed against Adam that his injuries nearly killed him.
