Travelers at Hartfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta were seen lying on the ground over fears there was an active shooter Saturday.

Twitter account @ATLairport tweeted at 1:57 p.m. that there was not an active shooter. Instead, it was reportedly an accidental discharge.
“There is not an active shooter,” the tweet read. “There was an accidental discharge at the Airport.”
It continued, “There is no danger to passengers or employees. An investigation is ongoing, more information will be published on this channel.”

According to an updated tweet, a weapon was discharged at the screening area around 1:30 p.m.
At approximately 1:30 pm today a weapon accidently discharged at ATL’s security screening area. There is NOT an active shooter at the airport. APD is on the scene. More information about the situation will be made available on our social media channels.

The Atlanta Police Department is on the scene, and an investigation is ongoing.
