The Weeknd Announces New HBO Series: ‘The Idol’

The Weeknd has always made headlines when it comes to his outlandish visuals and crazy stunts for music videos, but this time he is touching another world, TV production.

Apparently, The Weeknd is putting in overtime. Besides being in the studio, the award-winning singer has an HBO series on the way, The Idol. Very few details have been released about the limited series but over the summer it was announced the “Starboy” singer would be producing and starring in his own HBO drama.

He made a low-key post Monday night announcing the show on his Instagram page.

Here is everything you should know so far about The Weeknd’s new show:

First up, The Weeknd whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, will be starring in his own show. He also will be developing and co-directing the show along with Sam Levinson.  Levinson is the co-creator of “Euphoria.”

The show follows an up and coming female pop singer, The King’s Lily Rose-Depp, who falls in love with a LA club promoter secret cult leader.

The Idol will shoot in and around Los Angeles. It only has six episodes confirmed which means a definite cliffhanger.

There will be a movie first and Britney Spears auditioned for it. It will be her first mega role in anything since her conservatorship ended.

Though there hasn’t been any official premiere date, this seems like something totally up The Weeknd’s ally. Will you be watching?
