A teen in California is suing his school, alleging that he suffered brain damage during a football hazing ritual.
Earlier this week, attorneys for the teen (who has not been identified) sued Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana for damages he suffered after playing the punching game “Bodies.” The attorneys named the high school and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange County, which oversees the school, as defendants.
The teen joined the 2021 football program as a junior and was severely injured during a hazing event held in the freshman locker room on February 4th.
The lawsuit claims that the teen engaged in a fighting game called “Bodies,” in which two people fight until one “can’t take it anymore.”
The lawsuit also claims that school staff didn’t intervene to help after the fight ended, despite evidence that he was bleeding.
The teen was allegedly hit in the head and face by another player and was later diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury that required him to undergo surgery on his nose.
Ever since, the teen has experienced severe pain, slurred speech, and cognitive dysfunction, according to the lawsuit.
