Deodorant companies Old Spice and Secret have some of their lines being recalled over a cancer-causing chemical.
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a notice after Proctor & Gamble Co. issued a recall on more than a dozen aerosol deodorants and sprays made by Old Spice and Secret. The FDA shares that the recall comes after the products showed that they could contain benzene, a cancer-causing agent, CNN Business reports.
The recall notice says that the products will more than likely not result in people experiencing health issues with the amount of benzene levels in specific products. Procter & Gamble Co. went on to say that there have been no “reports of adverse events.” However, the company is going to issue the recall just to be as safe as possible.
“Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in cancers, including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening,” the recall notice reads.
Some of the products – which have expiration dates before September 2023 – included in the recall are: Old Spice High Endurance AP Spray Pure Sport, Old Spice Hardest Working Collection Invisible Spray Stronger Swagger, Old Spice Hardest Working Collection Invisible Spray Pure Sport Plus, Old Spice Hardest Working Collection Invisible Spray Stronger Swagger, Secret Aerosol Powder Fresh Twin Pack and more.
Those who have purchased any of these items are being urged to throw the products away immediately or return them to the store for a full refund. The items were sold in stores throughout the U.S.
