Philly rapper Meek Mill plans to release his last Dream Chaser mixtape as a non-fungible token (NFT).
Meek announced on his Instagram account Friday, saying, “How can they relate I’m too real n#%gas fake #DCPOUNDCAKE LAST DREAMCHASER MIXTAPE A NFT …. LOYALTY CLUB STARTS JANUARY.1st 2022 you can invest merch albums and shows and get marketed,” Meek captioned.
The post is similar to another he shared two days before, where the 34-year-old wrote on his IG, “Loyalty club starts January 1st, 2022 NFT mixtape.”
The caption is attached to a clip of the “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper catching a flight, in which he surprised attendees at the 2021 REVOLT Summit with a performance before he was seen partying in a club with Justin Combs, Gunna, Jadakiss, and others.
At one point in the video, a text flashes across the screen that reads, “About to get ownership of the music they actually make and create.”
It’s unclear whether Loyalty Club is the title of Meek’s upcoming project or if it’s the name of an NFT project he is currently working on.
In November, he also shared a photo of himself wearing a jacket with “Loyalty Club” across the back. And in April of this year, Meek expressed his interest in using NFTs to release music in a tweet. “I’m doing a nft album as soon as im out my deal,” he said at the time.
Apparently, Meek’s decision to release a mixtape as an NFT will be groundbreaking for both Meek and the NFT/cryptocurrency community.
NFTs are unique pieces of digital content linked to the cryptocurrency blockchain and not mutually interchangeable, making it interesting to see how the mixtape will be shared with others if they’re sold to just one owner.
The rapper previously expressed his grievances with his current label deal in a tweet that has since been deleted: “I haven’t get paid from music and i don’t know how much money labels make off me. I need lawyers asap!!!” he tweeted.
His decision to release his mixtape as an NFT could be a new way for Meek to cash in off his artistry like others in the industry, including JAY-Z, The Weeknd, Azealia Banks, Tory Lanez, Eminem, Post Malone, Jeezy, Snoop Dogg.
