The family of Ezra Blount, the 9-year-old who died after suffering injuries at Astroworld, reportedly rejected Travis Scott’s offer to pay for the boy’s funeral expenses.
“Your client’s offer is declined. I have no doubt Mr. Scott feels remorse. His journey ahead will be painful. He must face and hopefully see that he bears some of the responsibility for this tragedy,” Blount family attorney Robert Hilliard said in a letter obtained by Rolling Stone.
The letter was in response to Scott’s lawyer, Daniel Petrocelli, who contacted the family last week to pay for the expenses.
“Travis is devastated by the tragedy that occurred at the Astroworld Festival and grieves for the families whose loved ones died or were injured,” Petrocelli wrote. “Travis is committed to doing his part to help the families who have suffered and begin the long process of healing in the Houston community. Toward that end, Travis would like to pay for the funeral expenses for Mr. Blount’s son.”
Though Scott’s lawyer stated that accepting the money for funeral expenses “have no effect” on the lawsuit filed by Ezra’s father, the family declined the offer and instead asked Scott to “respect” that his “devastation” over the tragedy does not compare to the loss of 9-year-old Ezra.
Ezra died on Nov. 14 after being placed in a medically induced coma following being trampled at the music festival. He was laid to rest on Nov. 23.
