Los Angeles Police Department arrested 14 suspects in connection to 11 smash-and-grab robberies. All were released because of California’s “zero bail” policy.

DailyMail reports that the LAPD chief claims they have arrested 14 people that are responsible for stealing 340,000 dollars worth of merchandise. Videos have been trending on social media during this holiday time. They show massive crowds stealing products from retailers like Home Depot and Best Buy. Retail theft and organized crimes are topping charts at an all-time high this season.

Nordstrom has been the center of attention for California.

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore says that most of the accused robbers suspected of ransacking businesses bailed out or met no-bail criteria. One is a juvenile.

In a press conference, Moore was joined by Mayor Garcetti. They talked about reducing the crowds at Los Angeles County jail amid COVID concerns. They claim ending the no-bail policy will not be a cause of concern for overcrowding and lockups need to be encouraged for defendants who commit violent crimes. For instance, robbing businesses.

Garcetti says, “we have opened up a lot of the city because we’re in a better place with COVID. We should be able to also open up our jails, and we should be able to have judges that put people behind those bars.”
