A new report claims that staffers working for Vice-President Kamala Harris are leaving their White House jobs in part due to concerns that they could be labeled a “Harris person” and have their careers tarnished.
The report claims a growing list of Harris staffers are leaving because of the chaos happening internally in the White House and disastrous poll numbers.
Sources allegedly told Axios that staffers are concerned with being labeled a “Harris person,” as well as facing burnout from their jobs.
The sources claim that the label of being a “Harris person” carries a heavy stigma with it in Washington. Staffers are concerned that their association with the fledgling VP as her first year in office comes to a close could potentially taint their chances for successful careers in Washington.
Earlier this week, Symone Sanders, Vice President Kamala Harris’ chief spokesperson and senior adviser, announced that she would leave Biden’s administration at the end.
Sanders acknowledged her exit in a letter on Wednesday to her colleagues, shared with CNN.
“I’m so grateful to the VP for her vote of confidence from the very beginning and the opportunity to see what can be unburdened by what has been,” the letter stated. “I’m grateful for Tina and her leadership and her confidence as well. Every day, I arrived to the White House complex knowing our work made a tangible difference for Americans. I am immensely grateful and will miss working for her and with all of you.”
The Vice President’s communications director, Ashley Etienne, also departed the White House to pursue “other opportunities.”
