World’s Longest Cruise

There were at least ten cases of COVID-19 reported aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship after passengers were tested Saturday. The testing occurred while the boat was still at sea, and on Sunday, the vessel disembarked in New Orleans.

All passengers and crew on the boat are fully vaccinated. None of the ten people that tested positive were showing symptoms. All ten people will be required to travel home via their own personal vehicle or quarantine in accommodations provided by Norwegian.

“Governor John Bel Edwards, the Louisiana Department of Health, the City of New Orleans and the Port of New Orleans are aware and working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to initiate existing COVID-19 agreements and protocols with the cruise line,” the city said Saturday in a news release.

The Norwegian Breakaway departed from New Orleans on November 28 with more than 3,200 aboard. It made stops in Mexico, Honduras, and Belize.

“The health and safety of our guests, crew and the communities we visit is our highest priority, and we will continue to take all appropriate actions to ensure their wellbeing and protect public health,” a spokesperson for Norwegian said.
