Additional details have emerged regarding the home invasion that led to the death of Jacqueline Avant, wife of music icon, Clarence Avant.
Family sources say Clarence Avant was sleeping at the time of the burglary, but at around 2 a.m. his wife was already awake in another room when she was surprised by an intruder.
TMZ reports that Jacqueline’s family suspects that she and the intruder came face to face, startling each other.
Security was reportedly guarding the front of the house when the intruder appeared to enter through the side yard.
According to reports, the security guard heard a gunshot from inside the home when he ran to check it out and that’s when the suspect fired at him as well before fleeing the scene.
As previously reported, police arrested a man named Aariel Maynor roughly an hour after the crime. The man was allegedly committing another burglary in the Hollywood Hills when he shot himself in the foot.
In connection with the Avant shooting, Maynor has been charged with murder, attempted murder, felony with a firearm, and two counts of residential burglary with a person present.
The suspect won’t be arraigned until after he has foot surgery on Wednesday.
Jacqueline passed away that night at the age of 81.
