Don Lemon is facing criticism for failing to mention his connection to Jussie Smollet, who is currently on trial for allegedly lying to police about being the victim of a hate crime.
While covering the actor’s trial Monday night, the CNN news anchor failed to mention that he was the one who allegedly tipped Smollet off to the police investigation back in 2019.
Lemon discussed the trial with Omar Jimenez and neglected to mention that Smollett testified in court that day and revealed that he received a text from Lemon that claimed Chicago PD didn’t believe his story.
Critics took to Twitter and demanded that Lemon resign for his omission.
They can demand all they want to, but he should not have to resign from his role. For years, all white juries have convicted innocent black children and people for crimes that they did not commit only to exonerate the after their death. If he really believed Jussie was innocent then his letting him know was perfectly fine. The only wrong doing that could have taken place is if he believed him to be guilty and still warned him instead and I do not believe he had the knowledge to know Jussie was wrong.
