Travis Scott has broken his silence about the devastating Astroworld music festival in a new interview with Charlamagne Tha God.
In the exclusive sit-down that was posted to Charlamagne’s YouTube channel Thursday, the “Rodeo” rapper spoke about the tragic night that claimed the lives of ten festival attendees during his set. While many have blamed him for the deaths, Scott maintains that he was not aware of the magnitude of the situation until the press conference was held detailing the tragedy.
“Even after the show, you know, you’re just kind of hearing things, which I didn’t know the exact details until, you know, minutes before the press conference. And even at that moment, you’re kind of just like, ‘Wait, what?'”
When pressed about who he feels is responsible for the Astroworld deaths, he would not blame anyone, including himself. Instead, he stated that it was his duty to “figure out what happened” and what he could do to prevent this from occurring at future shows.
The rapper also responded to the multiple families who turned down his offer to cover their family members’ funeral services. He called their decision “understandable” considering the circumstances but reiterated that he is “always going to be here to want to help them.”
Aside from denying legal liability for the deaths and injuries in court, Scott has remained mostly silent regarding the catastrophic show. Lawsuits against him and Live Nation have reached the hundreds, with billions in damages being sought.
