Stephen Curry breaks Ray Allen’s all-time 3-point record during the Golden State Warriors game against the New York Knicks.

Ray Allen left the National Association of Basketball (NBA) as the 3-point shot king with 2,974 career 3-pointers. When Curry stepped on the court last night, he was only two 3-pointers away from making history and breaking Allen’s longtime record. Curry made his history-making shot in the first quarter with 7:33 left on the clock, CBS Sports reports.

“H I S T O R Y Stephen Curry is officially the greatest shooter this game has ever seen,” the NBA team wrote in a tweet.

Allen’s stunning feat came to him in his 1,300th game, whereas Curry beat the record in only his 798th career game. His resume of record-breaking 3-point shots includes 3.8 3-pointers per game, 402 3-pointers in a single season, he’s had the most games with double-digit 3-pointers (22) and he’s had the most 3-pointers in a calendar month (96), CBS Sports reports.

“I don’t even have words for it, to be honest,” Curry said about the possibility of breaking Allen’s record earlier this season. “It’s not just getting the record. There’s another caveat of hoop heads knowing volume and efficiency is huge. Like, mastering both. So the fact that I have — I know I still got a lot more in my career — been able to shoot the percentage that I have in the regular season over the course of my career … with how defenses have changed against me and the shots that I take, and all of that, to me is pretty special. But to get to that number is a big deal.”
