On Wednesday, loved ones and community members gathered to honor slain rapper Young Dolph with a street named after him.
The street sign for Adolph “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr. Avenue was unveiled at the intersection of Dunn Avenue and Airways Boulevard in Memphis, Tennessee. During the ceremony, Dolph’s longtime partner, Mia Jaye, spoke with the couple’s two children, remembering the 36-year-old as “such a giver” who had a “genuine golden heart.”
“He was an amazing example of what a man should be to my son and how a man should treat his daughter,” Mia said during her passionate speech.
Also in the crowd were Dolph’s parents and City Councilman JB Smiley, who sponsored the resolution.
The street renaming comes only one day before a planned public memorial for the late rapper will occur at the FedExForum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free tickets were available on Ticketmaster Monday and quickly ran out in a little over an hour.
To date, there have been no arrests made in Dolph’s November 17th murder, which occurred as he purchased cookies inside of Makeda’s Homemade Cookies.
