Dior has postponed its Cactus Jack collection designed by Travis Scott indefinitely. WWD reports that it will not be released in the near future, and there is no indication of whether it will ever be released.
This announcement comes as a direct response following the tragic incidents that occurred during Astroworld Fest, in which multiple people died due to crowd trouble during Travis Scott’s performances.
Over the past couple of weeks, Scott has been criticized heavily for the alleged understaffing of the event, as well as the reported cost-cutting that ultimately led to an unsafe environment.
Scott is currently facing various lawsuits, including a $2 billion class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of 282 clients.
In a press release from Thomas J. Henry, the attorney representing the 282 plaintiffs, he said “The defendants [Scott and Drake, whose guest appearance caused the surge to intensify] stood to make an exorbitant amount of money off of this event, and they still chose to cut corners, cut costs, and put attendees at risk.”
Various brands previously associated with Scott have since distanced themselves. Anheuser-Busch, who brews Scott’s Cacti hard seltzer, has stopped selling any of these products and Coachella has removed Scott from their 2022 lineup for its upcoming festival.
In addition to Dior, other brands associated with the creator have taken this step, which many feel is the right one.
A significant part of Scott’s Texan roots were influenced by Dior’s Cactus Jack capsule collection, which included cacti and desert elements in a wide range of ready-to-wear pieces. It was also the first time Dior collaborated on a collection with a musician, as well as the first time it allowed its logo to be changed.
The collection was hailed as a sure-fire hit prior to Astroworld Fest, but Dior made the only move it could in postponing, if not canceling, the collection.
As of now, it’s unclear how long brands will shy away from partnering with Scott and whether or not he will ever return to the heights he reached before Astroworld Fest.
