Reports say a North Carolina police officer may have accidentally officer shot his 15-year-old son in the head.
“On Monday, December 27, 2021, I was notified by Colonel Chris Thomas of the Onslow County Sheriff’s office about a shooting that occurred at approximately 4:36 p.m. on December 27, 2021, on Haw Branch Road in Onslow County. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office had commenced an investigation of the shooting,” reads a Facebook news release status from District Attoent Ernie Lee.
The status was made after an unidentified officer from the Jacksonville Police Department tragically shot his teen son in the head in what appears to have been an accident. NBC News reports the boy was immediately taken to Vidant Medical Center in Pitt. Reports say he is still in critical condition.
“This is a tragic event and this matter remains under investigation by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office,” Lee continued in his post. “The reports, statements, and other evidence from the investigation will be provided to this office to determine what actions, if any, will be taken.”
For now, the officer has been placed on administrative lease as the investigation continues.
