New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office announced last week that this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration would be “scaled back” with fewer revealers and strict mask requirements.
The legendary celebration in Times Square typically holds around 58,000 people in sectioned viewing areas. Still, this year the number will drop significantly to 15,000 people, and visitors will not be allowed entry into the area until 3 p.m., the office said in a news release.
The official news release also stated that everyone attending the outdoor festivities would be required to wear a mask and show photo identification.
