JetBlue Airways has canceled more than 1,000 flights through the middle of January as COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
The United States is averaging about 1,200 to 1,500 Coronavirus cases a day. And with the Omicron variant being harder to evade, regardless if you are vaccinated, more and more companies are opting to resort to flight cancelations. On Wednesday, JetBlue announced that it would be “proactively reducing” its schedule through Jan. 13 “to give our customers … as much notice [as] possible,” NBC News reports.
The airline plans on canceling about 1,280 flights, noting that it expects to see an even bigger increase in COVID-19 cases.
“While the new CDC guidelines should help get crew members back to work sooner, and our schedule reduction and other efforts will further ease day-of cancellations, we expect the number of Covid cases in the northeast — where most of our crew members are based — to continue to surge for the next week or two,” the airline said on Wednesday.
“This means there is a high likelihood of additional cancellations until case counts start to come down,” it said.
