As we usher in 2022, we have new films and television shows to look forward to. While some shows are returning with new seasons, there will be some utterly fresh content for our viewing pleasure. As the possibility of us returning to quarantine looms, let’s explore some of the most highly anticipated films and shows that we have to pass the time.
Films
- Creed III
Arriving in theaters on November 23rd, 2022, “Creed III” is the third installment of the “Creed” films. The movie will be directed by Michael B. Jordan, who also stars as Adonis Creed, son of Apollo Creed, who faced Rocky in the original films.
2. I Wanna Dance With Somebody
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” takes viewers through the tale of legendary singer Whitney Houston and her iconic career. Naomi Ackee will tackle the role of Whitney, which Yaya DaCosta has previously played in the 2015 Lifetime biopic, “Whitney.” The musical biopic is set to be released on December 23rd, 2022.
3. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Part OneÂ
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)” is an animated take on Spider-Man and will welcome Issa Rae to the Marvel superhero flick voicing “Jessica Drew,” aka “Spider-Woman.” This film will arrive in theaters on October 7th, 2022.
4. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 Marvel hit will move forward without the beloved Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther. The sequel will focus on the varied characters as they co-exist in Wakanda without their beloved king. The film is expected to debut on November 11th, 2022.
5. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” will debut on June 9th, 2023, so fans have to wait a bit longer for this science fiction action sequel to 2018’s “Bumblebee.” It will serve as the seventh installment of the “Transformers” franchise.
6. The Batman
“The Batman” is slated for a March 2022 debut. The film will find Batman uncovering a slew of corruption in Gotham City that his own family is connected to. He will also face off with the Riddler in this action-packed superhero movie.Â
Shows
- This Is Us Season 6
The final season of “This Is Us” already has fans on an emotional rollercoaster. Season six will focus mainly on Rebecca’s recent Alzheimer’s diagnosis, guaranteeing several tear-jerking moments. “This Is Us” will premiere on January 4th, 2022.
2. Rap Sh*t
As one of the most anticipated series of 2022, “Rap Sh*t” is produced by Issa Rae and will star City Girls. Loosely based on the lives of the QC stars, the series will follow two high school friends from Miami who reunite to form a hip-hop group. At this time, there is no release date for this show.
3. Euphoria
“Euphoria” will return for season two on January 9th, 2022. Fans will get to see if friends Rue and Jules find their way back to one another after parting ways during the season one finale.
4. Atlanta Season 3
After some stalling with production, the highly anticipated season three of “Atlanta” is returning on March 24th, 2022. Viewers will pick up where they left off with the music careers of Earn, Alfred, and Darius.Â
5. Snowfall Season 5
The new season of the beloved series will find Franklin Saint and his family living nicely as the federal government seeks to crack down on the drug trade. Cable’s most-watched series of 2021 will make its grand return on February 23rd.
6. Black-ish
In its January 4th, 2022 season eight premiere, “Black-ish” will get a special guest appearance from former First Lady Michelle Obama. In that episode, Bow will convince Dre to attend a When We All Vote event, where they run into Mrs. Obama. While not much more is known about what will occur in the final season, Obama’s appearance has been teased since October.
