Betty White‘s agent is denying rumors about her death being linked to a vaccine booster shot after the Hollywood legend passed away a few weeks before her 100th birthday.
Betty died peacefully in her sleep at home,” White’s agent, Jeff Witjas, said in a statement to People magazine on Monday.
Witjas released her cause of death after people alleged her cause of death was related to getting a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot three days earlier, but he said that was not the case.
“She died from natural causes. Her death should not be politicized — that is not the life she lived.”
Her agent previously told the Associated Press that the T.V. icon did not get a booster shot on December 28, as some on social media falsely claimed.
“Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever,” Witjas shared with the outlet last Friday. “I will miss her terribly, and so will the world that she lived so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she’d be with him again.”
The Golden Girl star lived in her five-bedroom, six-bathroom Brentwood home in West Los Angeles when she died on Friday — just weeks before her 100th birthday.
Witjas told A.P. that she stayed at her L.A. home during the pandemic out of caution.
According to the New York Post, if White had it her way, she would’ve remained at her longtime marital home in Carmel, which she built with Ludden when they purchased the land in 1978 for $170,000.
Her agent also revealed to People Magazine that he always reminded Betty of her popularity among fans.
“She knew it, but I would tell her often. Even when she wasn’t working, I said, ‘Betty, millions of people out there are still asking for you. You’re getting your fan letters, and I’m getting offers for you.'”
Witjas added that her popularity went beyond love. “I really hope she knew. I think she did,” he said.
