Goldfish are growing up and want the grown-ups to purchase the delicious treat for not only their children but for them!
Pepperidge Farm, the maker of the Goldfish, just announced a new line of snacks called Goldfish Mega-Bites which appeals to adults. The new treats feature two flavors, Sharp Cheddar and Cheddar Jalapeño. The tasty snack has a history of appealing to adults, kids, and now adults again.
Goldfish launched in 1962 and targeted adults. The brand recommended the crackers as a bar bite. Many ads featured people eating the snack with a martini. Julia Child, a television personality, ate the snack with an upside-down martini. The Goldfish TikTok account showed the Vanilla cupcake graham crackers with an espresso martini.
Then in the 90s, the snack was advertised mostly as a kid snack because of the size. However, it didn’t stop adults from continuing to eat the snack. According to Janda Lukin, Chief Marketing Officer at Campbell Snacks, “about 47% of Goldfish buyers don’t have children in their household.” Goldfish used the statistics to capitalize on reaching different audiences by experimenting with spicy flavors.
Franks’ Red Hot and Goldfish did a special flavor, Jalapeño Popper. Thanks to the recent pandemic, everyone has been feeling nostalgia and wanting the crackers.
