Page Six has learned that legendary Hip Hop producer Pete Rock is filing a lawsuit against Nas over unpaid royalties.
According to Rock and his attorneys, he’s owed millions for his contribution to the Queens emcee’s classic Illmatic album. He reportedly signed a contract that entitles him to revenue earned by “The World Is Yours.” Despite demanding payment several times, he hasn’t received a dime.
“Nas and his people have stonewalled me since 1994; My New Year’s resolution is to be compensated for my hard work on ‘Illmatic,'” Pete Rock told the outlet.
His legal team is gearing up to file the lawsuit sometime this month.
The iconic track is one of Nas’ most sampled works. It’s been used by Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Rick Ross, and Mac Miller. It was also featured in the 2002 film Antwone Fisher. Denzel Washington directed and starred in the movie.
