China has allegedly sent people to “quarantine camps,” as photos of alleged “quarantine camps” go viral online.

“Millions of Chinese are living in COVID quarantine,” reads a tweet that was posted online last week. In the video, several staff members are fully covered in white suits walking around white box-shaped cubicles lined up at what looks like a sports stadium. Now, the video has people accusing China of allegedly creating “quarantine camps” that supposedly are for lockdowns. Per a Twitter user, the New York Post reports that at least 20 million people have allegedly been placed in “quarantine camps.”

The news outlet reports that 95 percent of China’s adults are fully vaccinated. The New York Times reports more than 45,000 people have been moved to quarantine facilities in Xi’an.

“There is nothing here, just basic necessities… Nobody has come to check up on us,” one person wrote on Weibo. In addition, a poster claimed, “more than a thousand people” were forced into the camps in the middle of the night, according to BBC.

Some in the quarantine say they have endured harsh conditions, including difficulty obtaining food, and that those who break the rules may be subject to “swift and sometimes bloody” punishments. Despite criticism, Vice Premier Sun Chunlan allegedly says he’d like to see more of these safety measures placed around the country.

“It is necessary to do a good job in guaranteeing the living needs of the people in the closed and controlled communities, ensure the basic medical needs of the people during the epidemic period, and ensure that the people’s demands can be responded to and resolved in a timely manner,” said Sun.
