Divorce seems to be in the air these days, and Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are no exception, announcing their split on Wednesday.
The seemingly picture-perfect couple released a joint statement via Momoa’s Instagram, sharing news of their divorce after 17 years together. They originally began dating in 2005 after meeting at a jazz club. Two years later, they welcomed their first child together, Lola, and many believe that is the year they married. A second child, Nakoa-Wolf, was born in December 2008. Bonet is also the mother of actress and model Zoë Kravitz, whom she shares with ex-husband singer Lenny Kravitz.
In October 2017, the couple officially announced their wedding and did not shy away from their undying devotion to one another in public appearances. However, it appears that things took a turn at some point. The statement only offers hints as to what may have gone wrong in their marriage, noting their family has felt “the squeeze and changes of these transformational times.” The couple said that they wanted to make the news public to move on with “dignity and honesty.”
“The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become.”
While Bonet does not have social media, photos of the 54-year-old “Cosby Show” star have been noticeably absent from Momoa’s Instagram profile in recent months.Â
Neither Momoa nor Bonet has offered any further comment on the divorce.Â
