Drake and Chris Brown are not phased by a copyright infringement lawsuit over their 2019 hit “No Guidance.”

Both Drizzy and Chris Breezy are seeking a dismissal from a federal judge after musicians Brandon Cooper and Timothy Valentine took legal action against the superstars for allegedly stealing their song and using it for “No Guidance.” Cooper and Valentine claim that the platinum single is actually a rip-off of their 2016 record, “I Love Your Dress.” They filed their lawsuit in October 2021.

James G. Sammataro, the lawyer representing Drake and Chris Brown, rejected the allegations, saying the phrase “you got it,” which is heard throughout both records, appears in “countless other works” and cannot be copyrighted.

Sammataro also pointed out in his argument that neither Cooper nor Valentine could prove indefinitely that Brown and Drake ever heard their song and purposely stole it. He says that the case is based on “alleged similarity.”

“No Guidance” peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 46 weeks on the chart. The record went on to become nominated for Best R&B Song at the Grammys.
