Jasmine Guy Opens Up About Bill Cosby: “I Couldn’t Really Put the Two Images Together”

Bill Cosby’s public fall from grace is still impacting many people from his past, including actress Jasmine Guy from “A Different World.

Guy told Page Six, in tears, that she was struggling with Cosby’s charges and that she didn’t believe the allegations at first.

“I couldn’t really put the two images together,” Guy says. “It’s heartbreaking for those of us in the business that admire him, his talent and his mind—and then as a black person it’s heartbreaking because he meant a lot to the community.”

After years of claims that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted women, comedian Hannibal Burress made a joke in 2014 that sparked new interest in the allegations.
In 2018, A Pennsylvania court found Cosby guilty of aggravated indecent assault and sentenced him to three to ten years in prisonHe was released last year on a technicality.
Guy recalls having candid conversations with men in her life when she first heard rumblings about Cosbys alleged abuses.
“Just to [try to] understand the mentality, which is still baffling,” she explained. “I asked practical questions like, ‘What pleasure do you get out of being with someone who’s kind of out of it?’”

“I don’t expect people to be perfect and I don’t expect human beings not to falter,” she continued. “I just didn’t understand. I don’t know, there was a meanness behind it that I couldn’t understand.”

Guy says she only met Cosby just a few times since they filmed on separate coasts.
