Kendrick Lamar is tapping into his film production side. The Grammy-nominated rapper teams up with ‘South Park’ creators to produce a live-action comedy movie.
Vernon Chatman will be taking the lead in writing the film’s script. Vernon is most known for writing and producing the last 20 seasons of ‘South Park.’ Chatman has also worked in production for Adult Swim’s cult classics: Wonder Showzen, Delocated, and The Shivering Truth.
The name of the film is not public news just yet. However, the synopsis of the film says, “The past and present [come] to a head when a young black man who is interning as a slave reenactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”
The film’s distribution will be handled by Paramount and will eventually make its way to its streaming app, Paramount+.
As for Kendrick’s involvement, his company, pgLang, will take care of the film’s production. The movie will be the first film produced by the company, which was initially a record label.
The production for the live-action film has not begun just yet but will start this upcoming spring.
