The 2022 Grammy Awards will now be held on April 3rd after being postponed due to COVID-19.
The 64th ceremony was originally slated for January 31st. However, on January 5th, the Recording Academy said that the “uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant” led them to postpone the star-studded evening.
In addition to the new date, the ceremony has found a new home at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Previously scheduled in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena, the award show lost its booking with the arena after the postponement.
“We are excited to take the Grammys to Las Vegas for the very first time and to put on a world-class show,” said CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr.
The Grammy’s is under a lot of pressure this year to put on a stellar show following a sharp decrease in viewership. Last year, viewership fell to 8.8 million, a 53% decrease from its 2020 show. As host of this year’s Grammy Awards, Trevor Noah of The Daily Show has a big job on his hands to pique people’s interest in the event.
The Grammy’s will be broadcast live on CBS and can be streamed on Paramount+.
