‘The Story Of Hip-Hop With Chuck D’ In Development With PBS

In conjunction with BBC Studios, PBS is working on a four-part docuseries telling the story of hip hop. The Story of Hip-Hop with Chuck D, which was developed by the influential rapper and his manager, Lorrie Boula, tells the story of the music genre over the past 40 years.

“The hip-hop community has, from the start, been doing what the rest of media is only now catching up to,” Chuck D said in a news release announcing the docuseries. “Long before any conglomerate realized it was time to wake up, hip-hop had been speaking out and telling truths. Working with PBS and BBC is an opportunity to deliver these messages through new ways and help explain hip-hop’s place in history and hopefully inspire us all to take it further.” 

The series will be produced by BBC Studios. Bill Gardner will serve as the executive in charge of PBS with Chuck D and Boula as the executive producers. The commissioning editor for the BBC is set to be  Max Gogarty. Sam Emmery will serve as executive producer and Helen Bart as the series producer for BBC Studios.

A release date for The Story of Hip-Hop with Chuck D has not yet been announced.
