Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is on pause again due to the latest Omicron surge on the Atlanta set.
Initially, the film paused following Chadwick Boseman’s unexpected death in 2020. He was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and it slowly progressed to stage IV. The second installment of Black Panther is a sequel to the 2018 film but follows T’Challa’s brilliant sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright).
Wright will be the new lead and focus for the film with a return of Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and T’Challa’s former love Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o).
Screenrant reports several cast and crew members tested positive for the virus, including Lupita Nyong’o. Though filming paused for a week, it may push back the expected premiere date in November 2022.
The omicron-related pause for the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel and Boseman’s recent death pushed the film back, but production has suffered multiple delays. Letitia Wright suffered numerous injuries from a shooting stunt, fractured shoulder, and concussion.
