Three Pennsylvania officers have been charged in the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old girl at a high school football game.

Three Sharon Hill Police officers, Devon Smith, Sean Dolan and Brian Devaney, have officially been charged for fatally shooting 8-year-old Fanta Bility on Aug. 27. According to ABC News, Bility’s sister and two others were injured.

In a statement, the district attorney’s office announced the officers are now facing a total of 12 criminal counts of manslaughter and reckless endangerment “for their actions that night.” The girl’s death – which happened less than a week after the incident – likely occurred after one of the officers returned fire following a gunfight between two teens, preliminary findings suggest.

Two gunshots were fired in the direction of the officers, who at the time were overseeing the crowd at the game. The officers then took out their guns and shot toward the football field.

“We have now concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that it was, in fact, shots from the officers that struck and killed Fanta Bility and injured three others,” Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said Tuesday.
