Amazon is ready to bring its massive collection of clothing to brick-and-mortar stores with the opening of Amazon Style.
The retail store will open later this year in Glendale, California. Amazon Style in Glendale will be located in a prime location, in a bustling shopping complex that features Nordstrom and JCPenney. Similar to its neighbors, Amazon Style will feature a wide range of clothing and footwear brands for men and women in the 30,000 square foot location.
The retail giant will rely heavily on technology, with customers scanning QR codes on “display items” to view more color and size options. The additional options will be held in the stockroom and will only be brought out upon request. Fitting rooms will also have to be requested via the app. Touchscreen displays will also be available in the rooms, allowing shoppers to rate the item or order a different size that will be delivered to them by an employee. Amazon believes that this method will cut down on clutter seen in many other retail stores.
“This allows us to offer more selection without requiring customers to sift through racks to find that right color, size, and fit,” said Simoina Vasen, managing director of Amazon Style.
Amazon has surpassed Walmart as the No. 1 apparel retailer in the United States, so the concept store does not come as a surprise to supporters of the retail giant.
