A California mom is suing a school district for allegedly brainwashing her daughter into changing her identity.
Last week, Jessica Konen filed a lawsuit against Spreckels Union School District and teachers Lori Caldiera and Kelly Baraki. She claims that the educators used the district’s “Parental Secret Policy” to manipulate her seventh-grade daughter into believing she was transgender. Under this policy, teachers are permitted to advise students about their gender confusion and can declare a new gender identity while in school without notifying parents. Konen initially met with teachers and agreed to allow the school to use male pronouns and names for attendance while her daughter was in school.
Konen claims Caldiera and Baraki aggressively sought out kids they suspected were having identity issues and invited them to join the school’s Equality Club. The club helped students understand and express their gender identities. After leaked audio from the California Teachers Association’s LGBTQ+ conference allegedly showed Baraki and Caldiera discussing operating the club without parents’ knowledge, she decided to take action against the school.
During an interview with Fox News, Konen says her daughter deserves justice. Her attorney, Harmeet K. Dhillon, says that while his client supports whatever her daughter wants to be, “It is not for these teachers to try predatorily assume.”
Konen is suing for infliction of emotional distress, negligence, civil conspiracy, and violating her federal and constitutional statutory rights.
Caldiera and Baraki have been on administrative leave since November.
