American Airlines istock

A Canadian man has been sentenced to serve six months in prison for groping a flight attendant during a trip to Miami.

On Monday, a federal court judge sentenced 50-year-old Enio Socorro Zayas to serve six months in prison after he grabbed a flight attendant’s butt and thigh. NBC News reports the incident happened last year on August 6 during an American Airlines flight that was on its way to Miami from Mexico.

No information about why Zayas groped the woman has been released, but reports say the inappropriate touching happened after the stewardess started handing out packages of snacks to passengers. According to court documents, the flight attendant thought he was sleeping when she got to his section of the plane, and instead of skipping him, she placed the snacks on his lap.

When she turned to help other flyers, the man grabbed her thigh and behind. The woman immediately hollered out, telling the man to stop. In response, the man “mumbled,” something that wasn’t “intelligible.”

Zayas pleaded guilty in October to one count of simple assault within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, a misdemeanor, NBC News reports. He has been freed on bond but will have to report to prison by March 28.
