The family of Drakeo the Ruler announced that they are filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the promoters in charge of the Los Angeles music festival, Once Upon a Time in L.A.

The 28-year-old rapper was stabbed in a brawl backstage before performing at Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park on December 18. However, a recent video reveals he was set up. He died at the hospital later.

Attorneys say Drakeo was a “targeted assassination,” saying the lack of security backstage led to the fight and the rapper’s death based on the shown video.

The rapper, whose real name is Darrell Caldwell, was an influential west coast artist with multiple hits like “Impatient Freestyle” and “Long Live The Greatest.”

Tianna Purdue, the mother of the rapper’s 5-year-old son, says, “How did these people get through? How did these people get access backstage to an artist? Where was anyone? Where was anyone there to help him?” The video shows men in red breaking into the backstage area with no security insight. They attacked Caldwell and his entourage.

The family is suing Live Nation for $20 million; the company also has other lawsuits regarding the Astroworld deaths in November 2021.

Other promoters sued include Bobby Dee Presents and C3 Presents. On Monday, attorneys will file a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against all promoters.
