A jewelry store owner scared off a pack of jewelry thieves, preventing them from making off with any of the lavish jewels.
Maaz Jewelers owner, Usman Bhatti, chased off the potential robbers on Friday afternoon. He says five men, believed to be in their teens and early 20s, came to his store in Tanforan Mall. Bhatti confronted one of the thieves, who was carrying a crowbar and trying to smash a jewelry display. As he raised the crowbar to Bhatti, the business owner pointed his gun at him. The man left, but one of his accomplices drew a gun and pointed it at Bhatti. Eventually, all five robbers fled the scene.
The San Bruno, California store owner says the men left him “no choice.”
“I’m not trying to be a hero or a macho man. It just happened very quick,” Bhatti said.
San Bruno Police Department confirmed that neither party was injured. They are still looking for the men involved, who wore black hoods at the time of the incident. However, the ordeal was captured on store surveillance.
While the police have not said whether this heist was linked to others, it comes as the Bay Area continues to be plagued by brazen thefts at jewelry stores and high-end merchants. The Maaz Jewelers heist was at least the third this month in the region.
