As the world struggles to grasp the sudden passing of Miss USA 2019 and Extra host Cheslie Kryst, a medical examiner has officially ruled her death a suicide.
The incredibly accomplished 30-year-old took her life on Sunday by jumping from her Midtown high-rise on the 60th floor in New York City. The day before her death, the attorney and beauty pageant winner posted a cryptic message to her Instagram, writing, “May this day bring you rest and peace.” Kryst left behind a note expressing she’d like to leave everything she owned to her mother, April Simpkins, who is also a former beauty pageant winner. Further details of the suicide note have not been revealed.
An autopsy was conducted on Kryst Monday. The following day, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner announced their official ruling.
A lengthy essay that she penned for Allure last year gave some insight into the struggles she was dealing with as she prepared to turn 30. She detailed how she nearly worked herself to death when completing her MBA and law degree, ultimately landing her in the hospital for eight days. The Emmy-nominated reporter also shared how internet trolls were harassing her on a regular basis.
“Now, I now enter year 30 searching for joy and purpose on my own terms — and that feels like my own sweet victory,” Cheslie Kryst concluded the essay.
