Spelman College issued a shelter in place order after receiving another bomb threat Tuesday morning. This makes the third threat the Atlanta HBCU received this year and comes just one week after the previous one.
School officials alerted students in a text message early Tuesday saying the university’s Department of Public Safety received a bomb threat. No additional information about the threats was provided.
Classes for the day were suspended and the campus was closed as officials and the Atlanta PD do a sweep of the university and investigate the threat. Students were also told to shelter in place until officials give an all-clear notice.
In the past two months, at least 17 historically Black colleges and universities across the U.S. have received bomb threats. The FBI has stepped in and launched an investigation where at least five people have been named “persons of interest,” according to the Associated Press.
