McDonald’s is bringing back the Shamrock Shake and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry starting Feb. 21 for a limited time.
Fans of these drinks will be pleased to see them on the menu, particularly the Shamrock Shake, which has been a spring tradition at McDonald’s for almost 50 years.
In 1970, Hal Rosen, owner of a Connecticut McDonald’s, introduced the green milkshake to the rest of the country. It combines soft vanilla serve with mint and is topped with whipped cream.
The shake was initially designed to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, but the sales helped build the first Ronald McDonald House to keep families together during difficult times.
Over the years, the signature green shake has gained an almost cult-like following, and as of its 50th anniversary in 2020, it will have sold more than 60 million milkshakes.
In 2020, the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry was introduced, featuring the same soft serve and Shamrock Shake flavors, along with a blend of Oreo cookie pieces.
In celebration of Shamrock SZN this year, McDonald’s presents the hex code that signifies the iconic mint color of their Shamrock drinks: #cbf2ac.
Fans can Let McDonald’s know they’re celebrating with #cbf2ac and #ShamrockShakeSZN! It might even lead to a surprise!
“Starting Feb. 21, our Shamrock green hex code just might unlock another tasty secret. That is, if you know where to look,” McDonald’s said in a statement. “Be one of the first to figure out the mystery, and you could get a little something special from us.”
