Joe Biden‘s administration is slamming Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over his support of a bill that would ban the discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation in schools.

Opponents of the controversial bill are calling it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill; the legislation is being advanced and supported by Florida republicans and its mission is to block any discussion about gender identity and sexual orientation in schools.

USA Today reports the bill seeks to discourage “classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity” in primary schools “or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.” The bill doesn’t outline what would be deemed appropriate.

Advocates of the bill say the legislation would give more power over the content their children learn. If the bill becomes law, parents would be able to sue the schools over said discussion topics being taught to their children. DeSantis is in favor of the bill, the news outlet reports.

On Tuesday, Biden took to Twitter condemning the bill.

“I want every member of the LGBTQI+ community – especially the kids who will be impacted by this hateful bill – to know that you are loved and accepted just as you are,” Biden’s tweet read.” I have your back, and my Administration will continue to fight for the protections and safety you deserve.”
