McDonald’s is ready to sink its claws into the Metaverse by filing trademarks to open virtual restaurants.

On February 4th, the fast-food chain filed ten trademark applications covering McDonald’s and McCafe. The company plans to present “virtual food and beverage products,” including NFTs. One of their virtual offerings will be a restaurant that offers home delivery. People within the Metaverse can virtually enter a Mickey D’s, order their food and have it delivered to their front door. In addition to “virtual food,” they will also be providing “online actual and virtual concerts.”

While it may seem a bit outlandish, several restaurants are getting in on the Metaverse. Panera Bread also filed for a trademark for a “Paneraverse” one day before McDonald’s. They are also looking to offer NFTs, virtual entertainment, and a virtual reward program.

While trademarks usually take between nine and ten months to be approved, trademark lawyer Josh Gerben told Forbes that he expects to see “every brand” file for trademarks in the Metaverse in the upcoming year as everyone is looking to cash in on the alternate universe.

Once the news hit of McDonald’s plans to plant their business model in the Metaverse, their stock jumped up 0.046% over 24 hours as of Thursday morning.
