A Texas physics teacher was reportedly chased and beaten by middle school students, breaking his arm in the process.
On Thursday, students from Aragon Middle School attacked assistant baseball coach and high school physics teacher Michael Shott during baseball practice at Langham Creek High School in Houston.
Video posted on social media shows Shott sprinting away at full speed through the high school parking lot as other students follow, recording the attack on their phones.
Eventually, the attackers catch up with their coach and force him to the ground before he gets up and runs away into a separate parking lot area.
Shott’s mother, Peggy, told KTRK that her son suffered a broken arm as a result.
“He’s doing fine. He’s at home. He has a broken arm, but the kids said that he’s doing what he’s always done, and he’s fine,” she said.
“The reason it happened to him was that he was doing his job. He stopped the kids. Well, there was only one kid at first. The reason the others came back is that they didn’t like him stopping them.”
According to students and social media users, the coach was jumped when he told the students not to ride dirt bikes or ATVs on school property, KABB reported.
Security officers were deployed to the school after social media threats of further violence were made regarding Thursday’s altercation.
“Our campuses must be the safest places in our community for students, staff, and visitors,” school officials said in a statement Friday. “We will not tolerate anyone compromising the safe environment of our campuses and will address violations to the greatest extent possible.”
In a letter to parents, district officials said the students involved in the attack would be disciplined according to the code of conduct.
