Whoopi Goldberg Says Tough Conversation is What She Was Hired to do During “The View” Return [Video]

Whoopi Goldberg has broken her silence surrounding her two-week suspension during her return to The View Monday.

The “Sister Act” star explained to her eager fans and co-hosts that while on the show, sometimes points are not made as “elegantly” as they could be. However, the host says the outpouring of love from people all over has been “amazing.”

“I listened to everything everybody had to say, and I was very grateful. I hope it keeps all the important conversations happening because we’re gonna be having tough conversations in part because this is what we’ve been hired to do,” Goldberg explained.

The 66-year-old was suspended following the January 31st show, where she said that the Holocaust was not about race but more about “man’s inhumanity to man” since the Nazi Germans and Jews were “two white groups of people.” The following day, ABC President Kim Godwin announced that Goldberg would be suspended for her “wrong and hurtful” comments.

The decision sparked widespread conversation, comparing Goldberg’s comments to her white colleagues on The View and other talk shows. Many felt that her punishment would not be as harsh had she been white. There were even talks that the actress considered resigning after her suspension. Nevertheless, she has returned and says she learned from the experience.
