Megan Thee Stallion has launched non-profit organization, Pete & Thomas Foundation, in honor of her late parents Joseph Pete Jr. and Holly Thomas.
“In celebration of my birthday, I’m honored to introduce the Pete and Thomas Foundation,” the rapper said in an Instagram post.
According to the foundation’s website, its mission is to catalyze resources to effect meaningful and positive change in the lives of women and children senior citizens and underserved communities in Houston, TX, and across the globe. Its areas of focus include dedication, housing, health and wellness.
“Launching the Pete and Thomas Foundation is easily one of the most significant endeavors that I’ll ever be part of in my career,” Stallion said. “My family raised me to help others and give back, so I’m incredibly proud to be in a position to accomplish that goal. I have a responsibility to use my platform to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who may not have access to resources and support services.”
The Texas Southern University grad previously opened up about her parents and wanting to make her family proud in an interview with PEOPLE.
“I want to get my degree because I really want my mom to be proud,” she said at the time, adding, “I want my big mama to be proud. She saw me going to school before she passed. My grandmother that’s still alive used to be a teacher, so she’s on my butt about finishing school. I’m doing it for me, but I’m also doing it for the women in my family who made me who I am today.”
“I’ve always seen everybody in my life be independent,” she recalled. “My daddy passed away when I was 15, so my mama was still going hard taking care of us. If we were going through money problems, my mother and my two [maternal] grandmothers always made sure I didn’t know. We could’ve been struggling, but they made it work. I’ve always seen strong women making it work, so I’ve always wanted to have that same drive the women in my family have. I know I get a lot of my strength from my mother and both of my grandmothers.”
